本科翻译专业是口笔译人才培养的基础阶段, 学生的语言功底是本阶段教学的重要内容之一, 口译的即时性对学习者提出了更高的语言能力要求。
二、英汉词汇对比分析
英语和汉语都有实词 (Full Word) 和虚词 (Form Word) 之分, 语法作用大致相同, 但是, 也存在诸多差异。
1. 冠词
英语中有冠词a、an、the, 而汉语没有, 冠词是一种虚词, 本身不能独立存在, 只是放在名词前帮助说明名词的意义, 口译中碰到冠词时应注意下几点:
(1) 不定冠词可以译为“一”, 有时可能需要加上适当的量词。
a student一个学生;an apple一个苹果。
(2) 不定冠词在表示抽象意义的一些具体名词前时不用译出。
She has an ear for music.她对音乐有鉴赏力。
(3) 定冠词一般表示特定的人或事物, 通常不译出。但是, 如果在句中含有“这”“那”“这些”“那些”等的意思时, 则要译出。
The end does not justify the means.即使目的正当, 也不能不择手段。 (不译)

(4) 在有些短语中, 使用定冠词和不定冠词时, 其意义相去甚远。
out of question没问题;out of the question不可能。
2. 介词
英语介词数量比较多, 使用广泛, 意义变化大;而汉语介词则比较少, 使用面窄, 意义比较固定, 口译中介词可以这样来处理:
(1) 有些表示时间、地点、状态等的介词可以省去不译。
In 2014, we visited their company.2014年, 我们参观了他们的公司。
He is good at English.他擅长学英语。
(2) 含有动作意义的介词可以转译成动词。
Across the street, she entered a building.她穿过大街, 走进了一栋楼。
(3) 固定搭配, 约定成俗, 不可乱译。
It depends on you.由你决定。
3. 连词
英语中连词的使用率远远高于汉语连词, 因为英语重形态结构, 而汉语重内在联系, 有不少连词不需要译出。
Call me when you have time.有时间就给我打电话。
My parents and I visited the new museum.父母和我一起参观了新博物馆。
4. 代词
英语中代词的使用范围和使用频率都远远高于汉语, 英语的代词通常分为八类:人称代词、物主代词、反身代词、相互代词、指示代词、疑问代词、关系代词和不定代词。汉语代词分为人称代词、指示代词、疑问代词。英语中的名词往往在第一次出现之后就由代词代替, 避免重复, 代词常常略而不译。

5. 名词
(1) 有些名词的单复数形式在不同场合下使用的意义不同。
cloth布料;clothes衣服;people人们;peoples民族。
(2) 有些抽象名词在翻译时要具体化。
unemployment失业现象;tension紧张局势。
(3) 英语的名词所有格不一定都译成“……的”的结构。
a bird’s-eye view of Changsha鸟瞰长沙;St.Paul’s圣保罗教堂。
(4) 英语名词的使用频率远高于汉语, 而动词的情况恰恰相反。因此, 英译汉时常常需要将一些有动作意义的名词或短语译成动词。
They fell in love at first sight.他们一见钟情。
(5) 有些名词复数概念需译出来。
Steps have been taken, but without success.已经采取了一些步骤, 但毫无结果。
6. 动词
在英语中, 动词的时态和语态的变化比汉语动词复杂得多。
(1) 汉语中, 一个句子可以连续使用几个动词, 即“动词连用”。动词连用是现代汉语句法的显著特征之一。英语每个句子中只能使用一个动词, 或者几个并列动词。因此, 英译汉时, 除了英语动词之外, 还要把其他词类也译成汉语动词, 方能体现出两种语言各自特点。
I forgot my key.我忘了带钥匙。
He offered me a cup of tea.他倒了一杯茶给我喝。
(2) 英语动词包括及物动词和不及物动词, 而汉语中大多是及物动词, 只有极少数是不及物的, 因此, 在英汉互译时, 要注意区分, 尤其是有些动词由及物动词变为不及物动词时, 其意义会发生变化。
I know him.我认识他。
I know of him.我听说过他。
They have approved the plan.他们已经批准了计划。
They have approved of the plan.他们赞成这个计划。
(3) 英语动词的时、体变化。英语时态有十几种之多, 此外, 还有语态的变化。汉语是通过词汇手段和句法手段来表示“时”的变化。在英译汉时, 要将复杂多变的时态通过“着”“了”“过”“已经”“就要”“现在”“将来”“正在”“过去”等这些词来表达, 将语法手段转换为词汇手段。
He gets up at 7 a.m.everyday.
他每天早上七点起床。
The boy students in this school have not been allowed to grow long hair.
这所学校的男生一直不许留长发。
三、结语
要掌握好口译技能, 首先要有坚实的语言基本功, 本科口译课程教学作为口译人才培养的第一阶段, 承担着夯实学生语言基础的重任, 口译教学中学生对英汉词汇差异的学习可以帮助其更好地掌握语言本身。

一、引言
1792 年9月26日，为与中国建立外交关系、增进贸易交流，乔治· 马戛尔尼勋爵 （ Lord George Macartney） 受英王指派，以贺乾隆八十大寿为名，率领规模庞大的使团来华。这是西欧政府同中国的第一次正式外交，在中英关系史上有着举足轻重的地位。虽然这次英国使团访华的使命最终以失败而告终，但后人对这次事件的研究兴趣却经久不衰。

二、英方的译员分析
马戛尔尼使团在最初筹备时就发现物色译员的不易。最后副使乔治·斯当东（ George Leonard Staunton） 在意大利那不勒斯找到了两名愿意回国的中国神甫——李雅格和周保罗。他们两位都会意大利语和拉丁语，但是都不会英语。另外，斯当东的儿子托马斯·斯当东（ George Thomas Staunton）作为见习儿童随使团一同前往中国。小斯当东聪明伶俐，有着超强的语言学习能力，沿途随着中国翻译学习中文，很快便掌握了中文并且会写汉字，正式了成为马戛尔尼使团中的一名“译员”。当时，中国人不能擅自离开国门，也不能受雇于外国人。英使团坐船抵达澳门后，因害怕被降罪，周保罗便执意上岸，不愿为使团翻译。这样，李雅各和小斯当东便要承担起马戛尔尼使团的翻译重任。
马戛尔尼使团第一次和清王朝派来的众多大臣会面时，小斯当东便和李雅各一道完成翻译任务，取得了令人滿意的效果。他作为使团中唯一一个学会了说中国话的成员，还参与到礼品清单的翻译中。马戛尔尼使团为了表现其对清王朝的重视和对此次访华的诚意和用心，要求在礼品单里对每项礼物作出详细说明以凸显出其礼物的贵重，翻译难度可见一斑。另外，小斯当东还承担起誊抄马戛尔尼觐见乾隆皇帝礼仪照会译文的工作。礼仪照会的英文原件是先译为拉丁文，经由李雅各粗略译出中文意思后，由法国传教士罗广祥（Nicholas Joesph Raux）请来的一位中国基督徒进行加工润色使之符合清朝官文格式后完成。但是他担心被清王朝认出字迹因参与国事被降罪，因此誊抄照会译文的任务就落到了小斯当东身上。可见，小斯当东的中文水平颇高，既能说也能写。
与小斯当东相比，李雅各的中文水平则不尽如人意。他虽然是中国人，但他13岁便前往意大利那不勒斯，在国外待了20年，长期使用拉丁语和意大利语，中文对他来说早已陌生。另外， 他对中国官场用语和宫廷礼仪习俗完全不熟悉，也没有任何中国官场经验。例如，他不理解委婉语和话语中的弦外之音。大臣和珅的话“要不是皇上估计你们还有自己的事要办，他倒挺愿意让你么留下”，他翻译时只是翻译了字面意思，完全没有理解这其实是“逐客令”，没有把真正的意思传达给中国人。这样的翻译失误完全是不谙熟中国的语音和文化导致的。
由此可见，掌握双语言文化对译者来说是多么重要，翻译不只是一种语际转化，在深层意义上它更是一种跨文化转换。从文化的角度看，翻译实际上是一种文化传播和文化阐释。[6]译者在翻译的过程中，不能仅仅局限于字面上的翻译，还要谙熟两种语言下的文化，才能游刃有余地完成翻译任务。
三、中方的译员分析
虽然李雅各的翻译水平得不到认可，但是他对马戛尔尼使团却是不容置疑的。他始终站在英使团的立场，竭尽全力维护英使团的利益。他敢于承担任务，面对困难，坚守岗位，没有像周保罗那样临阵脱逃，竭尽所能完成任务；坚持英国递交给乾隆皇帝的是“礼品单”而非“贡品单”，拒绝练习并向英使团示范觐见乾隆皇帝时清朝要求做的三跪九叩觐见大礼；拒绝接受臣属关系，坚决要求中英两国外交活动中的平等地位，维护英国的政治立场，利益和尊严。李神父对英方利益的敏感度甚至超过了马戛尔尼，对于“进贡”一词马戛尔尼都置若罔闻，他却极力争辩。因此，季压西称李雅各为“忠实的仆人，不称职的翻译”。[4]
同样，清王朝在翻译人才的选择上也颇为重视，也遇到了相同的困难。当时的中国长期闭关锁国，不具备精通中英双语的翻译人才，并且清王朝一直都靠为朝廷服务的欧洲传教士处理外交事宜，所以请7名欧洲传教士为翻译，成立了以葡萄牙传教士索德超（Joseph-Bernard d’Almeida）为首的翻译团队。这些欧洲传教士不懂英文，且因为来自欧洲各个国家，各个国家就宗教利益和在华利益的掠夺上是有矛盾的，国家之间的利益关系错综复杂，所以他们当中有的像索德超一样憎恶英国人，对马戛尔尼使团提出的要求千般阻挠，有的像法国传教士贺清泰（Louis de Poirot）和罗广祥支持英使团来华。
索德超是马戛尔尼使团未抵京前就被清王朝确定下的译员。当马戛尔尼使团在热河时，他被清廷委派担任主要翻译。[7]
而马戛尔尼使团事先就了解到索德超对英国的敌意，因而坚持不让其当翻译。“彼那铎此人……然妒念极重，凡西人东来者，除其本国人外，阁不加以仇视。对于英国人怀恨尤切。吾至澳门之时，即有人嘱余抵北京后善防此人。今日一与此人相见，观其沉毅阴险之貌，始知此人非处处防范，必为所陷。”[5]虽然只想让李雅各作为唯一一名正式译员，可由于李雅各的翻译能力不尽如人意，特别是不谙熟官场用语，英使团无奈之下才启用葡籍传教士索德超。
当时，索德超在中国已有十余年，担任钦天监副监，与李雅各相比，他谙熟中国文化习俗和官场用语，所以马戈尔……尼使团上呈给乾隆皇帝的文书全都要经他一一过目。在进行翻译任务时，他以葡萄牙在华利益为重，千方百计破坏英使团访华的计划。他在翻译中可能刻意添加了一条原本在英使团六条要求备忘录中没有的第七条：传播英国国教。也正是这一条，引起了乾隆皇帝的反感和震怒。出于维护葡萄牙在华利益和对英国的嫉妒，在马戛尔尼使团离开中国后，他继续散步对其不利的谣言，意在进一步破坏中英两国的外交关系，以巩固葡萄牙的在华优势。索德超之所以从中作梗，是因为葡萄牙多次意图与清廷建立外贸关系均未获得批准，因此他也不希望马戛尔尼使团取得成功。[2]
那法国传教士贺清泰和罗广祥为什么会支持马戛尔尼使团访华呢？这些不同国籍的传教士在北京不仅仅是承担翻译任务这么簡单，他们绝对不是一心一意为清王朝服务的译员，而是“充当着各自的国家在中国的代理人，遇有涉及本国利益的事项，他们总要进行些活动”。[1]法国传教士认为，如果欧洲等国与中国的关系进一步改善的话，有利于他们在中国传教进程的发展，而英国在传教问题上根本不是法国的对手。正因为基于这点考虑，在翻译英国国王第二道勅谕时，他们刻意添加了对英王表示敬意的词语以缓和原稿的语气，并告诉马格尼尔“我们所能做的，就是在敕谕中塞进一些对英王陛下致敬的词语”。[3]马戛尔尼使团对罗广祥教士的印象极佳，还请他参与了马戛尔尼觐见乾隆皇帝的礼仪照会的翻译工作。
作为中方选择的译者，各国传教士们属于不同的宗教派别和国家，出于对他们个人的宗教利益和国家利益的考虑，采取了不同的翻译策略，有的帮助马戛尔尼使团，有的则破坏马戛尔尼使团活动，给中英外交造成了巨大影响。根据上述分析，我们不难得出，译员的政治意识和政治倾向在外交翻译中的地位举足轻重。我们在外交翻译过程中，必须要坚定正确的政治立场，将自己的立场摆在公正的位置上，确保原文的信息准确无误地翻译出来。
四、结论
在历史长河中，口译扮演着相当重要的角色，口译在外交翻译中的地位不言而喻，关系着外交活动的成功与否。在口译员在进行外交翻译时，不仅要具备有过硬的双文化能力，驾轻就熟地实现两种语言的转化，传递出原文的真实意思，而且要有敏锐的政治意识，坚定正确的政治立场，将自己的立场摆在公正的位置上，切勿强加自己的意志和观念。只有这样，才能让外交活动顺利进行，促进两国关系的和谐发展。随着全球化的不断深入，口译越来越受到人们的关注，对口译发展史的进一步研究对我国的对外关系是非常重要的。
