语言有着丰富的文化内涵。学生通过学习英语, 可以了解所学语言国家的历史地理、风土人情、传统习俗、生活方式、行为规范、文学艺术、价值观念等。语言与文化有着非常密切的关系, 在跨文化的交往中, 假如我们没有对文化知识的深入了解, 只局限地以自己母语文化中所形成的思维方式、行为方式、习俗观和世界观去和外国人交往, 必然会形成不同文化观念在某个话题或论点方面存在差异、分歧的问题。教师教授文化的重要性不言而喻。笔者在本文中以《新目标》英语九年级部分单元为研究对象, 深入挖掘教材中的文化元素, 探讨教师如何在教授课程中巧妙地渗透文化教育。

一、怎样挖掘教材中的文化元素

笔者结合自身的教学经验, 认为要挖掘出教材中的文化元素, 应做到以下五点:一是认真研读教材, 捕捉含有文化元素的内容;二是结合教师用书中教学目标部分, 明确本单元应该教授的文化知识, 关注文化注释部分的参考资料;三是多阅读、观看介绍英语国家社会与文化概况的书籍、文章、影片, 拓宽自身的文化知识底蕴;四是结识外国朋友, 在交谈、相处时留意、体会中外文化差异, 并将这种对文化的敏感性运用到教学中;五是年级组英语教师集体备课, 发挥团队力量, 不遗漏教材中任何一处含文化元素的内容。

二、教材中文化元素的具体体现

(一) 民族文化与跨文化交际教学的关系

本教材中有介绍我国民族文化的单元, 这能增强学生对本民族文化的了解和热爱, 培养学生用英语介绍我国文化的能力。

1. 中国传统节日

第二单元Section A涉及中国的传统节日——中秋节, 课文通过我国古代神话“嫦娥奔月”的故事, 引出中秋节。本单元旨在让学生掌握节日专属文化词汇后, 能用英语介绍本国文化, 学会沟通, 提高跨文化交际意识。

2. 中国传统艺术

第五单元介绍中国传统文化中具有代表性的风筝、孔明灯、剪纸和泥塑, 通过介绍传统的中国文化元素, 让学生了解与中国传统文化艺术有关的风俗习惯;学会制作工艺、制作原料和象征意义的表达, 提升学生的民族自豪感, 这对学生跨文化交际中所需的文化敏感也有潜移默化的作用。

3. 中国传统文化

第六单元介绍了中国的茶文化。唐代陆羽的《茶经》是世界上的第一部茶书。中国茶文化对世界影响显著, 这是中华民族对人类文化及文明的一大贡献。茶文化是茶艺与精神的结合, 并通过茶艺表现精神, 以茶会友是茶文化最广泛的社会功能之一。

(二) 关注外国礼仪、文化、节日, 了解中外异同, 发展跨文化意识

1. 不同点

(1) 中外风俗礼仪的不同

习俗文化指的是贯穿于日常社会生活和交际活动中由民族的风俗、习惯形成的文化。中外习俗差异是多方面的, 如第十单元介绍了不同国家的人们初次见面的礼仪及餐桌礼仪:印度人用手抓着吃饭;在韩国吃饭时长者先吃;在中国不能把筷子插到食物上、不能用筷子敲碗。法国的餐桌礼仪:不应该把面包放到盘子里, 应该放在桌子上, 除面包外, 其他东西不应该用手抓着吃, 应该切开用叉子吃;如果你饱了, 不应该说饱, 而应说“很美味”。对比哥伦比亚和瑞士的风俗礼仪:约会是否准时、拜访朋友前是否告知对方、见面后活动是否提前安排。对话中还提到了因风俗礼仪的不同发生的尴尬事情:约翰在美国朋友家聚餐时犯了一些礼仪错误, 如与日本学生见面后, 他伸出手去同对方握手, 对方向他鞠躬;凯特伸出手向一个法国朋友问候, 但法国朋友吻了她的双颊。

第七单元4b中提到中外父母对待年满18 岁孩子是否可以搬出去住的不同态度。在西方国家, 父母允许孩子搬出去, 他们相信孩子能照顾好自己, 教育孩子独立;而中国家长担心孩子安全问题, 认为孩子和父母待在一起更好些, 年老后孩子可以照顾他们。

西方父母注重培养孩子独立、自食其力的精神, 孩子干活家长适当付费很常见。对孩子的管教, 西方父母很少用棍棒式的方法, 而多进行说服教育。

(4) 欢庆节日内涵的不同

第二单元介绍了一个西方的重要节日———圣诞节, 让学生领会圣诞精神, 将爱和快乐传递给周围人, 给需要帮助的人以帮助。

教师可利用恰当时的机告诉学生语言运用的得体性, 提升其依据场合得体运用语言的意识及使用语言的礼貌意识。如第三单元中礼貌问路的方法, 应使用“Could you please tell me where...? / Excuse me / pardon me, do you know ...? / May I ask...? / I wonder if you can help me, I’m sorry to trouble you, but...”语言的得体性与使用者的身份、性别、年龄、熟悉及亲密程度等因素有关, 不是所有场合语言越礼貌就越合适。

第四单元介绍了used to的用法, 在与外国朋友交流今昔比较时, 若双方关系一般或较为生疏, 我们就不应该在交流中涉及有可能令对方尴尬或不自在的话题内容, 如“You used to be slim and thin and now you’re fat.”等, 这一点中外也是一致的。

三、怎样巧妙渗透人文性教育

笔者针对前面第二点挖掘出教材中的文化元素, 试着探讨如何运用教学机智, 渗透人文性教育。

(一) 中国文化的渗透

1. 中国传统节日

教师在讲课的时候应该补充介绍一些其他节日的资料。有了这些铺垫后, 再让学生制作英文手抄报, 主题为“介绍我国的泼水节、端午节、春节或元宵节”。然后, 让学生以小组为单位, 评选出该组的最佳手抄报。在这个过程中, 学生对一些节日专属词汇及节日文化了解更深, 达到了用英语介绍本国文化的目的。

2. 中国传统艺术

教师组织一次班级艺术品展示会, 让每个学生为自己参展的艺术品充当讲解员, 向其他同学讲解该艺术品的材质、产地、用途、象征意义等, 学生要提前准备讲解词, 查资料、练习的过程就是在用英语做事情的过程, 学以致用, 对培养学生的自信心有很大益处。

3. 中国传统文化

教师在网上发帖, 表达自己对茶与咖啡的好恶, 然后让学生跟帖, 围绕茶与咖啡中外两种不同的饮品进行交流, 可以谈它们的起源、发展、文化等。在跟帖中, 学生可以读到同伴的看法, 能形成互相比拼用英语进行交流的氛围, 对激励学生的英语学习大有好处, 即便自己不会表达, 阅读同伴的作品也是一种学习。

2. 充分利用自身的生活经历和实例来丰富教学, 组织开展多种多样的活动, 给学生提供展示和交流的机会。如举办英语节, 让学生展示才艺;让学生做Duty report、举办口语竞赛、演讲比赛、辩论会等;开展读书交流活动、写作活动, 把学生的作品张贴在学校展示栏或班级展示栏中。

一、本学期的指导思想:

二、教学任务与教学目标:

根据国家教委颁发的《九年制义务教育全日制初级中学英语教学大纲》。通过训练学生的听、说、读、写,使学生掌握最基本的语言知识和语言技能,从而培养学生初步运用英语进行交际的能力;寓教于乐,使学生养成良好的外语学习习惯,为将来的学习打下坚实的基础。

以教材为载体,密切结合教材,在课堂上努力创设各种情景夯实语言知识及语言技能,从而激发学生主动学习英语的兴趣,提高学生的记忆、观察、思维及想象能力,为学生的终身学习奠定基础。

三、教材分析及教学进度:

《新目标英语》九年级共安排有十五个单元,各单元话题灵活有趣,贴近学生生活实际。本册书将学习的一些语法知识点有:被动语态,虚拟语气,情态动词,定语从句,短语动词,过去完成时等。同时每个单元都增加了文化背景知识和学习策略,并增加了任务型学习成分与语篇输入,提供了一篇具有跨文化内容的阅读文章及相关的练习,用以训练学生的阅读能力,扩大学生的阅读量。

九年级英语是人民教育出版社出版的新目标英语,本册书依然是分为SectionA、SectionB、Self-check和阅读四部分,其中A部分为新课呈现,B部分为拓展延伸,教材编排有以下目的:

1、要使学生受到听、说、读、写、英语的训练,掌握最基础的语言知识和语言技能以及培养初步援用英语交际的能力;养成良好的外语学习习惯,掌握学习外语的基本方法;为进一步学习和运用英语打下扎实的基础。

四、学情分析

从整体情况来看,由于以前调换老师较多,普遍学生英语基础较差,兴趣不高,甚至有部分学生的听说读写能力还不够小学三年级水平,所以在课堂教学时,出现有学生不守课堂规则,不愿听课、睡觉或是做与课堂无关事情的现象,这使得课堂难以调控,难以形成英语学习氛围。有少部分学生基础较好,自制能力较强,能认真听课,按老师要求完成各项任务。总的来说,本班的英语教学具有挑战性,需要耗费不少时间和精力。

五、教学措施

1、依据学生基本情况,逐步激励学生对英语产生学习兴趣。

本学期本人担任九年级1班及八年级1班的英语教育教学工作,为了顺利完成教育教学任务,在教学中贯彻新目标教学的要求,开拓创新,特制定本计划如下。

一、学生情况分析

本学期学校八,九年级共开设了2个教学班,其特点是班大人多且英语基础甚差(八年级1班共有学生35人,九年级1班学生共有42人)绝大部分学生上期基础知识掌握不够扎实,普遍阅读写作得分率极低;字体潦草,学习态度又不端正,学英语的兴趣极不浓厚;课堂学习积极性较不太高,回答问题也不太积极,极少部分同学能做到自觉完成作业、自觉背诵课文,但有相当一部分学生却不能按时完成作业。受学习态度、风气的影响,刻苦学习之风不太浓厚,部分学生上课不认真,当然有部分学生还是劳逸结合,掌握了科学的学习方法。从学生成绩来看,存在明显不平衡。少数优生优势不明显,差生面较广,培尖补差任务重。

二、教学要达到的目标

1、德育方面:使学生的思想认识有一定的提高,能热爱自己的家,孝敬父母亲,在学校能尊敬老师,团结同学,还着重培养热爱祖国的感情。

2、教育方面:在课堂上培养学生多方面的素质,不能只重视学习成绩和分数。

3、教学方面:提高学生听、说、读、写的各项能力及分析问题解决问题的能力。同时培养学生良好的阅读和学习习惯。

4.兴趣方面: 不仅让学生懂得学习英语的重要性而且要注重培养学生学英语的兴趣,增强每位学生学英语的主观能动性,变“要我学”为“我要学”。

5.课堂方面:增强课堂的趣味性,让学生在快乐中获得知识,在快乐中度过每一节课。

三、教材分析

1.新目标人教版教材充分体现了新课标的“以人为本”教学理念。达到“以人为本”全面发展的新型素质教育观,新教材突出了功能和结构的有机结合.新教材非常注重话题,每个单元都围绕一个具体的话题展开,突出了话题结构、功能、实际运用三个方面的结合。让每个话题贴近学生生活实际,更便于学生灵活运用。

2、倡导“任务型”教学,强调课堂上师生互动并积极推进学校“三疑一探一考”(即:311)摸式的教学理念

本教材共15单元,分二个学期教学。按要求,第一学期为1-14单元,第二学期为第15单元。课本增加了读写训练的比重,以便于听说读写的全面训练。其内容主要反映了学生的日常学习和生活。课本设计了中外学生同校学习的情景,便于介绍英语国家的风俗习惯和文化。题材范围更广,除了学生的学校生活和家庭生活,还反映了学生的校外活动、劳动、卫生保健、体育运动、节日、尊师爱生、团结友爱、助人为乐的道德风尚。

四、教学措施和要求

A类学生:课堂上要求能回答较难提问,思考问题积极,教学任务能当堂完成,课后要求阅读一定量课外读物,考试时要求失分不大。

B类学生:加强双基教学,多鼓励多表扬,使他们爱好英语,并且用抓两头促中间的办法使他们时时有危机感。要求能较好地完成教学任务,能回答上课提出的稍难问题。

C类学生:教学中多关心、多爱护他们,平时与他们多进行谈话,让他们认识到英语学科的重要性,平时对他们要求严格但要求不过高,决不放弃他们,让每一位学生不掉队。

要达到这一目标,首先,应尽快从旧教法的框框中解放出来,转变思想,更新观念。若继续沿用传统的重语言知识讲授、重译写和语法教学、轻视语言运用能力的培养,不仅调动不起大多数学生学习英语的积极性,而且也不能充分达到教学目的,更不能与现行的中招考试命题相接轨。

其次,应重视学生学习英语兴趣的培养,激发学生的学习兴趣。新时期英语教学要提倡“乐”的观念,情绪越好,越乐观,对所学内容便会发生浓厚的兴趣,学习效果也将越好。提高学生学习兴趣。根据初中学生的年龄特点,起始阶段的教学要从视听入手,听说的比重应大些。

为实现这个目标,重要的是要调动学生群体的积极性。

(1)采用任务型教学,激发学习兴趣。根据初中学生活泼、好动,对新鲜事物充满好奇的特点,可激发学生的学习兴趣,调动其学习积极性,使他们在自觉和不自觉状态中,开启“自动学习”的心扉。在教学中,可尽量利用实物、图片和幻灯等直观教具进行教学。嗅觉、视觉、听觉一起参与感知,将实物与英语联系起来,学生获得直观印象后便很快记住了句型和生词。

(2)采用情景教学,创设良好气氛。在日常教学中,我注意使用情景教学法,以听说训练为主导,以课文教学为依托,充分运用现有的教学条件和设备,紧扣教材内容,使教学活动尽可能置于语言情景中去进行,使学生的理解力、记忆力、运用能力处于最佳状态,并在此基础上联想、综合,进行创造性学习,从而达到掌握和运用语言的目的。

运用交际手段,培养学生的能力。绝大部分学生主要是在课堂上学习英语,而在现实生活中缺少语言交际的环境和场所。

如何用好科学的教学方法,在有效的时间内使学生生动活泼地学习,我将做如下:

(一)、精心备课是提高课堂效率的前提。

大家都懂得提高40分钟课堂效率的重要性。而精心备课则是提高课堂效率的前提。认真的备课,会使我们做到胸有成竹,无论是重点、疑点、难点的落实,问题的设计,教法的选择,都要精心考虑,通盘安排。只有胸中有教材,眼中有学生(因人施教),才能运用自如,得心应手,才能有效提高课堂教学效率。

(二)、注重非智力因素开发是提高课堂效率的关键。

面向全体,全面提高英语教学质量,同时更要注重非智力因素(即信心、兴趣和习惯等)的开发,这对后进生尤为重要。因为他们缺乏主观能动性,学习信心不足,兴趣不浓,习惯不好,不肯下功夫背单词,或方法不妥导致成绩差。爱因斯坦说过“兴趣是最好的老师”。初中学生精力旺盛,记忆力好,猎奇心强,求知欲高,一般都能学好英语的。关键就在我们如何千方百计地激发不同层次学习的学习兴趣,如开展多种多样的口语活动,朗读比赛,趣味游戏等等。不断增添学生的新鲜感,激发学习英语的兴趣。
