高职学生不光英语基础薄弱,学生在口语课上面对一个主题时,即使用中文,对主题也没有太多想法,口语练习的也比较少。

“高效课堂”是针对课堂教学的低效性而言的。课堂教学的高效性是指在常态的课堂教学中,通过教师的引导和学生积极主动的学习思维过程,在单位时间内高效率、高质量地完成教学任务,促进学生获得高效发展。

笔者本学期尝试用英语写主题日志的方式对学生进行思维能力的培养,通过课上学、课上练,模拟和探讨教师的英语日志,再课上写、课上说,培养判断力、想象力、独立分析的能力等。此口语训练模式丰富了学生表达的内容,并在词汇积累方面取得了很好的效果,为职业技能课的各项能力打好了坚实的基础,最终建构了口语高效课堂。

一、写日志的材料准备

口语课的授课任务模块来源于各个场景,每个场景自成一体,可以单独拿出学习演练,即模块之间没有密切的联系和相互依附的关系,正是此课程的独特性使模块及子集内容呈现出多样丰富和独立平行,而便于学生自主选择,在兴趣与学习内容之间找到平衡点。学生因基础不牢会觉得理论知识枯燥,因学习习惯差而缺乏自律自觉的主动学习精神,因而用兴趣带动学生学习是最务实的出发点。

1.准备主题

笔者提供给学生选择的口语练习模块的主题比较丰富有天气、心情、健康状况、想做的事、外出、买东西、看到的、读到的、吃了喝了、做菜、做家务、业余爱好、体育运动、工作,有关钱、节日和庆祝活动,惊讶和其他强烈的感情,推测和预感、计划、期待、想法、决心、确信、担心、疑问、假设、后悔等等。第一次口语课学生可以先小组讨论,再集体商讨课堂学习主题的排序。每次课保证要有一个主题,多余的主题可从教学计划中删掉,做到因班施教。

2.准备课件、视频

根据每周主题制作课件、视频,并提前一周放到学生资源共享平台。课件包括中英文主题介绍、典型主题句、可替换的词汇、句子中的应用、老师的模板日志五项。视频主要是教师对模版日志的讲解、表达和微演讲,可让同事、家人辅助拍摄。时间最好控制在10分钟左右。

二、如何写英文日志

1.课堂互动

由于学生课前了解并学习了主题词汇和句型,有了相关语言输入和储备,课堂上对这部分知识只用巩固即可,这无疑大大提高了课堂的效率,减少了学习、理解、翻译句型的时间,增加了话题拓展的广度、深度及参与度。

每个学生都有机会跟教师互动,让他们对自己的课前准备有学以致用之感;教师也有余力针对学生的基础、爱好、特点进行提问,让学生在课堂上收获能回答教师所提问题的成就感。有用和自信这两大基石促进了学生为下一次主题做准备的积极性。

2.篇章构建

有了大量的语料做基础,加之课前对相关主题的联想和延伸,模拟日志就变得水到渠成了。如果想过渡平稳,衔接自然并照顾到基础弱的学生,教师可以让学生先替换词组,再替换句型。此阶段着重讨论并强调逻辑连贯,句群要围绕一个中心,锻炼学生对篇章的把控能力。

3.思辨拓展

学生对日志的整体有感性认识了,就可以随意搭建句式,组合篇章。此时的训练重点,是给学生提供一个行文脉络,帮助拓展他们理顺思路,并启发他们对问题的理解、判断和思考能力。比如用outline(大纲) 或scheme(设计)的方式,日志内容要涵盖天气、时间、时间、感觉、评价。

此阶段以强调思维、思想内容为主,鼓励学生多角度、多层次组织语言,兼顾日志语言的逻辑性、流畅度和篇章完整度。引导学生思考,让不同的学生有不同的看法,日志构思后可以以小组合作的方式相互交流。

4.公众表达

由于进行过探讨和自我构建,学生用英语口述日志,表达上会驾轻就熟,但就此做一个陈述展示或小型演讲,问题还是会层出不穷,问题主要表现在胆怯、欠缺演说策略上。胆怯可通过熟练日志内容并配以扩音器锻炼以加强自我肯定,欠缺演说策略需要教师系统地传授一些演讲技巧,如站姿、身体语言、声音的控制等,并在此基础上,循序渐进地给学生机会演练。

当学生陈述完毕,自己会对日志有一些反思。学生自评日志的角度可以是从内容上、结构层次上。学生互评、公开评价其他学生的演讲时可采用头脑风暴法,集体讨论下次怎样可以做得更好。此阶段突出对学生思考力的培养,如英语表达有困难,可以用中文进行。
