翻译在文化传播、促进不同文化交流和融合起着非常重要的作用。而一个民族的语言是一个民族文化的烙印,不同民族由于历史背景、生活环境、意识形态、风俗习惯、社会习俗、宗教文化的不同,对于相同事物,各民族语言也存在不同的内涵。所以在翻译过程中,由于文化空缺,常常出现信息遗漏、信息扭曲等,最终导致翻译的失败。为应对文化空缺现象带来的一系列问题,使翻译能准确传达原文的信息和内涵,研究文化空缺及其翻译策略意义重大。
1 造成文化空缺的原因
1.1 生活环境与经验的差异
语言是各民族在不同的生活环境下建立起来的。当一个民族的某些事物在另一个民族人们生活的客观环境里不存在时,就可能出现词汇的文化空缺。如中国特有的“旗袍”、“豆腐”、“水饺”等,这些词汇在西方语言文化中没有。同样,英语中很多词汇,如blackleg(指破坏罢工的工贼、骗子)汉语中也没有。
1.2 文化价值观念的差异
西方属于科学文化,隐私问题是英美文化中棘手的问题。中国人认为的隐私同英美人眼中的privacy的内容差别很大。而中国文化属于人文文化,最具代表性的是亲属称谓。如伯、叔、舅、姑、姨等。英语uncle可指代伯、叔、舅,aunt可指代姑或姨。
1.3 宗教信仰的不同
在汉语文化中,人们喜欢膜拜超越各路神仙的“天”,一些关于“天”的表达常见于汉语中,如“老天爷”“老天保佑”。而欧美人信奉基督教,认为世界是上帝创造的,世界上一切都是上帝安排的。许多词汇来源于《圣经》中的人物和事件,如a Judas指叛徒。
2 文化空缺的翻译策略
2.1 音译法
音译是以读音为基础,是处理文化空缺最简便的方法。原文中人名、地名以及一些表示新概念的词在目的语中找不到对应词来表示,可按照英语和汉语读音将词汇引入到目的语中去。如汉译英中的孔子(Confucius)、荔枝(litchi)、秀才(xiucai)、胡同(hutong)、阴阳(yinyang)、乌龙茶(oolung)等。英译汉中的dominoes(多米诺骨牌)、romantic(罗曼蒂克)、clone(克隆)、logic(逻辑)等。这些能够把源语言文化原汁原味地传到目的语文化中,丰富了目的语文化。

直译法是指在符合目的与语言规范的基础上,在不因其错误的联想或误解的前提下,在译文中保留原文表达方式的一种常用方法。它是填补词汇空缺的一种常用方法,在洗浴的翻译中较为常见。如汉译英中的纸老虎(paper tiger)、外强中干(outwardly strong but inwardly weak)、友谊万古长青(The friendship will last for 10,000 years and still be forever green.)这样既保留了中国词汇形象生动的特点,又丰富了英语词汇。再如英译汉中的To be on the thin ice(如履薄冰)、Blood is thicker than water(血浓于水)、blood zone(盲区)、crocodile tears(鳄鱼的眼泪/假慈悲)等。这些词汇的翻译既保留了原文的形式,也保持了原文的比喻形象和文化形象。
2.3 意译法
由于两种语言的结构和文化背景的不同,直译法无法正确地传达源语的内涵,而且在目的语中找不到相近的词代替。于是为了填补语言的文化空缺,译者应采用意译法。意译法是指传递源语言的意义,可能会遗失源语言的形式和修辞,以寻求文化间的对等。如汉译英中的“不到黄河心不死”译为“Until all is over,ambition never dies”、“挂羊头卖狗肉”译为“cry up wine and sell vinegar”、“狗改不了吃屎”译为“A fox may turn gray,but never kind”,英译汉中的the apple of one’s eye译为“掌上明珠”,“Who has never tasted bitter knows not what is sweet.”译为“不尝黄连苦,怎知蜂蜜甜”。这些翻译不仅传达了词汇和短语的文化信息,也传递了文化内涵,符合目的语读者的心态。
2.4 改编法
所谓“改编”指的是对直译、音译或意义在意义上进行补充的翻译。如直译加注解、意译加注解等翻译方法。在“改编”过程中,译者一方面尽可能保留源语的语言特色,另一方面希望译文意义明确,使读者一目了然。如具有中国特色文化内涵词汇“炕”,译为“kang—mud-brick-made bed in the countryside of the north of China”,“坐井观天”译为”sit in a well and look at the heaven—limited outlook.”如果直译的话,不知典故的外国读者会感到茫然。
结束语
翻译为文化交流的重要手段。所以我们在翻译中要正确对待文化空缺现象,并采取适当的翻译策略处理文化空缺。这就要求译者不仅要对原文的背景文化知识有深入的了解,还要针对不同的文化差异采取不同的翻译策略。研究文化空缺现象可以更好的学习和借鉴其他民族文化,并传播本民族文化,作为译者我们要承担起文化传播的使命。

引言
现在世界正在发生巨大的变革，逐渐呈现出网络信息共享化、一体化以及全球化经济的状况。国际上大多数国家之间都有着更加亲密的关系，期间的交流也更加活跃以及频繁，慢慢地将各个国家之间存在的不同文化以及思想进行有效地融合。所以，在国际竞争中，逐渐提升中国传统文化专用词汇的英语翻译特色，文化的主要地位逐渐凸显出来，慢慢地也加强国际之间的相互影响力。
一、分析中国传统文化和翻译之间存在的关系
在二十世纪的时候，我国人们就一直希望可以在中国传统文化和翻译研究之间建立起良好的练习，那时候就有相关的研究者提出“翻译的本质是翻译本国的文化，而并不仅仅是语言本身”的言论。之后就慢慢地将中国传统文化的研究和翻译研究进行合理的融合以及将两者慢慢地相互渗透。所以，从那时候开始翻译就不是单纯的文字翻译，而是将中国的传统文化涵盖进去，将中国的传统的文化进行更好的传播和转换，促进文化的构建以及社会的进步，同时文学之间的演变也变得常见。文化在特定的意境中，才能够根据相关的意境进行想象和发挥，才能够将更具有内涵的文化翻译凸显出来，这也是对翻译者提出的最基本的要求，大多数的翻译者都具有很好的文化理解能力以及非常深刻的文化意识，并且在翻译相关的原语文本的时候，善于借助科学的方法完成中西方文化之间的交流和理解。
二、分析中国传统文化专用词汇的英语翻译特色
1.翻译策略。在汉英翻译中国传统文化专用词汇时，需要利用特殊化以及异化方式进行归化，主要是异化，而归化只是起着辅助翻译的作用，在进行英译的过程中，需要结合意译、音译以及直译一起，这样在一定的程度上可以保留中国民族的语言风格以及传统文化的特色。然而，一般情况下常常会见到具有中国传统文化浓厚气息的专用词汇，倘若无法正确掌握好英译这些专用词汇内涵的方法，就会容易失去中国传统专用词汇所独有的特点以及文化内涵。所以，在选择英译的过程中，就需要利用意译策略进行翻译，这样可以很好地将专用词汇所含有的内涵翻译出来，尽可能地避免出现其存在的文化背景。尤其是当前中国传统儒家文化思想专用词汇，读者在不理解作品含义的时候，就无法正常翻译出来其所涵盖的特点和内涵，这样的翻译就不具有文化特色。例如，儒家文化的礼被翻译成ceremony、义被翻译成justice、仁被翻译成benevolence、智被翻译成wisdom，这样的英译成果明显地将中外语言文化差异体现出来。但是，对于专用词汇处于不同的文化背景，那么其具有的含义很本身的内涵就具有相似性，可以进行直译，例如，庙会就可以直译成temple fair等。
2.典型代表。对于中国传统文化而言，最具有代表性的作品就是《论语》，在网络中可以搜索相关的孔子学院资料，可以了解到在全世界已经存在上百所所孔子学堂以及上百所孔子学院。所以，慢慢地中外学者越来越关注中国的《论语》的翻译，相关的翻译人员就更加重视《论语》中专用词汇英译的特色，像《论语》中主要的专用词汇“君子”就会被翻译成“gentleman”、“仁义”就被翻译成“righteousness”、“礼仪”就被翻译成“niceties”。但是，如果只是一个“仁”，其就会具有另外一种意味和内涵，尤其是“仁”这个专用词汇使用在本书中的次数非常多，其具有的内涵也非常深刻，在孔子《论语》这个作品中，通过这个词汇就形象地将人类追求的最高境界体现出来。一直以来，相关的翻译工作者用心寻找最能够体现其内涵的翻译，然而由于仁具有非常广泛的含义，翻译也各具特色，最容易让人想起的英文翻译有：“kindness”，这是林语堂英译的仁；“humanity”，则是辜鸿铭英译的仁；都各具特色，让学者对仁的英译无从选择，这也是值得思考的问题，只有对《论语》原文可以进行正确的理解以及解读，那么自然能够起到促进选择英译的作用。
三、结语
综上所述，全球化经济中，一直在加强着东西方文化的交流，提升中国传统文化专用词汇的英语翻译特色变得越来越重要，因为翻译的精准性直接关系到文化的丰富内涵，也会严重影响到我国文化走向国际舞台的状况。只有提升中国传统文化专用词汇的英语翻译特色，将中国文化的丰富内涵精准地翻译出来，并且呈现在世界的舞台上，才能够发扬中华名族精神。另外，我国人们也要一直坚持强化推广以及翻译中国传统文化的工作，不断提升翻译的效果，才能够更好地将中国文化进行传播以及更好地将其进行语言的转换。
